U.S. registrations of hybrid vehicles totaled nearly 1.7 million as of July 1, 2010; an increase of 267,547 units (19.3 percent) over the previous year . Six states contained 48.4 percent of the 1.7 million total: California (25.4 percent), Florida, New York and Texas (each with about 5.0 percent), Illinois and Virginia (each with about 4.0 percent).
